Review: Lost and Found

Title: Lost and Found
Author: Carolyn Parkhurst
Genre: Chick Lit
Published: 2008

The only reason this novel interested me is because it was 10 cents at a yard sale. And the only reason I finished it was because it only took me a few hours to do so.

A group of people are contestants on a reality show called Lost and Found. The contestants travel around the world solving riddles, competing in dares, and claiming found objects. Each of the participants were selected because the producers of the show thought they had an Interesting Story that would add drama and conflict to the show.

Over the course of the book, each Interesting Story unfolded, but the resolutions often felt inexplicable and bizarre.  The characters were one dimensional, largely unlikeable, and never really evolved into the conclusion of their Interesting Story.

I sensed the author was trying to Say Something Important about the American anti-gay attitude and about society being corrupted by television, but these arguments were not convincing, and largely felt like the author's attempt to Make A Moral Statement.

If you enjoy shallow Chick Lit, you might enjoy this book. Me? I'd like my dime and three hours back.
