How sweet it is

Amélie. Ah, sweet Amélie. This film is most definitely on my list of favorites. Every time I watch it, I love it a little bit more.

The movie "tells the story of a shy waitress who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better while struggling with her own isolation." Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou, the 2001 film won four César Awards and was nominated for five Academy Awards.

Everything about it is just superb. The screenwriter was a creative genius. The acting and directing are perfection. The cinematography and special effects are brilliant. Amélie...it's sweet and adorable and quirky and charming. And that almost final scene when Nino appears on Amélie's doorstep? I cry every single time.

If you haven't seen it, you must. If you have seen it, you must watch it again.

And the perfect sweetness to enjoy with an evening of Amélie? Chocolat et vin! La Truffe Chocolat Nature from Vosges Haut-Chocolat and a (very not French) Elysium wine from Quady Winery. I've had both stashed away since my birthday in March, and a viewing of Amélie seemed the appropriate time to indulge!

  1. I loved this movie but I haven't watched it in ages! I completely agree, what could be better than a French movie, French chocolates, and a glass of wine? Maybe French cheese, baguette and pate to start?

  4. What a perfect combo :-) This film just makes you fall in love with life doesn't it? As an extra tick it is actually one of the two films the bf has actually managed to stay awake through in the 6 years we've been together! :-D
